The Northwest
Kidney Center is holding its annual Kidney Health Fest for
African American Families
The fest, held Saturday, June 22, 2013, 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. will be held at Van Asselt Elementary
(formerly the African American Academy) on 8311 Beacon Ave.
S., accessible by Metro route 106.
Everyone is invited, African Americans are
at four times the risk of having kidney disease, however
there will be information on kidney disease for all races
and ethnicities.

New report focuses
on three areas, proposes recommendations
The “2012
State Policy Action Plan to Eliminate Health Disparities”
targets three specific areas of concern: behavioral health,
environmental exposures and hazards, and poverty. The report
to the governor and Legislature identifies the three areas
as key to eliminating health disparities related to
race/ethnicity and gender. The action
plan, part of the Council's directive, succeeds a 2010

National Partnership for
Action to End Health Disparities (NPA)
The NPA is an initiative of
the federal Office of Minority Health.
The aim of the NPA is to mobilize partners in a
coordinated approach to end health disparities and to move
the nation toward achieving health equity. We
